Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has indicated that most of the public sector appointments made in the final weeks of the Akufo-Addo administration will remain valid after a government review.
During a press meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, he explained that a special presidential committee examined 2,080 recruitments, appointments and promotions carried out during the transition period. Out of that number, 1,539 have been approved to stand.
“It was done without malice or ill-feeling towards anyone. It was a necessary step to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability,” Kwakye Ofosu said.
He noted that the cleared appointments, which cut across 36 state institutions, followed proper recruitment and promotion procedures.
Importantly, all those confirmed had received their appointment letters before December 7, 2024 — the date of the general election that ushered in the John Mahama administration.

According to him, the committee used an 80 per cent compliance benchmark. Those who met or exceeded that mark have been allowed to continue working in their roles.
The review followed concerns raised by the new administration that the previous government hurried through a large number of appointments between the December 7, 2024, election and the January 7, 2025, swearing-in.
Earlier, the Chief of Staff had directed that all post-election appointments be revoked, a move that generated public debate and anxiety among affected workers.
Kwakye Ofosu clarified that 541 appointments were cancelled because they did not meet the required standards or were completed after December 7, 2026.
He stressed that the process was focused and fair, adding that while a few payroll-related cases may still be reviewed, most public servants affected by the investigation can now feel secure in their jobs.
