Over 1000 residents displaced over Teshie demolition

Over a thousand residents of Teshie-Nugua have been left homeless after their houses were demolished by the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) on Wednesday.

The demolition exercise was carried out to make way for a dual carriage way. The exercise was started behind the Teshie Police station through the LEKMA Hospital road to join the Manet-Spintex road.

The exercise was met with stiff resistance from residents, who battled the police there to offer protection. Some of the residents who spoke to Starr News alleged that they had been notified about the demolition exercise and have not been compensated by government.

But the Municipal Chief Executive for the Ledzorkuku Krowor munipality, Seth Badu in an interview on Starr Today on Starr 103.5FM Wednesday dismissed the allegations by the residents.

According to the MCE, the affected residents were informed of the demolition exercise in January last year and have been duly compensated.

He added that some of the residents had even used the money to settle down elsewhere and are enjoying their lives.
