Our campaign is independent- CPP

Accra, Nov. 24, GNA-The Campaign Committee of the Presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has declared that the party was working independently on the 2008 elections and beyond as a strong, vibrant and well organized political party.

"Our goal is to win the 2008 elections. The Party has made it clear that it is not into any kind of alliance with the New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress", said a statement issued by the Committee in Accra at the weekend. The statement said the candidate had also made it "abundantly" clear that he was in the race to win and become the next President of the Republic of Ghana.

"This is why Dr. Nduom has been running a very active, focused campaign directed as the masses of Ghanaians with a positive message and the "Edwumawura" idea that has caught on so well all over the country", said the statement.

It said, when the party's opponents were not able to compete in terms of ideas and solutions, they attack the person of Dr. Nduom. "The NPP in particular realizing that it is losing the message and ideas contest has resolved to employ all means foul to discredit Dr. Nduom.

"With all the communications "gurus", consultants both local and foreign and a huge pot of money at its disposal, the NPP and the Akufo-Addo campaign seem incapable of connecting with the ordinary Ghanaian to win their hearts and minds.

"They have employed some NPP people in CPP clothing and their attack team to do their dirty work for them", the statement alleged. The statement said Ghanaians were discerning and knew what game was being played and "They are surprised given the contribution and sacrifices made by Dr. Nduom to serve the people of Ghana in an NPP administration with its ideology that they would engage in such a strategy".

It said the ordinary Ghanaian in Prestea, Dunkwa, Pusiga, Saboba, Jasikan, Akomadan and other places knew their living conditions and they had heard the messages of the Presidential Candidates and they are yearning for change.

The statement said the ordinary Ghanaian saw Dr. Nduom as someone who understood them and was prepared to put his personal interests aside for their benefit.

"This is what scares the NPP", the statement said. "For the avoidance of doubt, let us be clear. After the experience serving in the NPP administration, which they do not appreciate, he believes the CPP has something better to offer. "Being minister in any administration is behind him. He is determined to work hard for the CPP to win many parliamentary seats and win power to form the next government.

"He is on course. He has lifted up the CPP to heights unimaginable only ten months ago.

"Ghanaians like his good natured, personal style of campaign and the substance of his "10 point agenda for change you can feel in your pocket".

"If you hear an NPP or NDC person saying that Dr. Nduom is working so that he will throw his weight behind them in a second round, tell that person, that you will not waste your vote, you will vote for Dr. Nduom to win and become the next President", the statement said.
