Otumfuo storms Okomfo Anokye’s shrine

His Majesty Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II will today pay a historic visit to Okomfo Anokye's family house at Awukugua Akuapem in the Eastern region.

The visit has been described by many as historic because since the late King of the Ashanti Kingdom, the late Osei Tutu visited Awukugua and requested Okomfo Anokye's support to defeat the Denkyera people in the 16th century; no Ashanti King has visited the family of Okomfo Anokye.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his entourage of sub-chiefs would first visit Okuapem hene Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa at his palace at Akropong Akuapem to congratulate him on his 40th enstoolment anniversary, as well as the Odwira festival which was recently climaxed by the chief and people of Okuapeman.

Sources say Otumfuo will proceed to Awukugua where he will be welcomed with a rousing durbar by the chief of Awukugua, Osabarima Opese Konadu.

After addressing the people, he will pour libation at Okomfo Anokye's Shrine and subsequently hold a close-door meeting with the family of the late Okomfo Anokye.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer of Ayempede family (family of the late Okomfo Anokye), Apesemaka hene Kwaku Kwabi popularly known in media circles as Dawuro, explained that the family has expected such a visit for a very long time since they were disappointed that after the Ashanti's sought the support of their royal, Okomfo Anokye, they have neglected their family.

He, however, expressed the family’s happiness about the visit and commended Otumfuo for recognizing them.
