A delegation from the Dagbon kingdom led by the overlod, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama joined the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia palace Wednesday to mark the Awukudae festival.

Ya-Na was accompanied by the Chief of Savelugu,Yoo-Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani and the Chief of Mion, Mion-Lana Abdulai Mahamadou.

At a durbar to welcome the delegation, the Asantehene expressed his resolve to assist in settling all other issues between the two feuding families in Dagbon to consolidate the restored peace.

The beautiful display of the Dagomba traditional dance attracted the admiration of an enthusiastic crowd gathered at the palace.

The rich Asante culture was also on display at the durbar ground.

The visit was also to express gratitude on behalf of the chiefs and people of Dagbon to the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene, which successfully brokered peace in the area after about a 16-year dispute in the area.

The historic resolution of the matter in 2018, brought an end to the over a decade old stand-off between the two feuding families; the Abudus and Andanis, which affected development in the area.

The Spokesperson for the Delagation, Yo-na Yakubu Mahamah, expressed his appreciation to the committee and the government in resolving the issue.

‘’There were lots of challenges and controversies along the way due to the stance taken by the feuding parties. However, with your traditional wisdom, knowledge and respect, you were able to restore peace . We are grateful for this effort,’’ Yo-Na Yakubu stated.

He further appealed to the Asantehene to help address anomalies currently happening in the area with regards to the installation of new chiefs.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasized the supreme leadership of Ya-Na Abubakari Mahamah in the Dagbon traditional area.

Otumfuo pointed out that the people should give the new Ya-Na all the support he needs in order to succeed in his endeavours.

‘’They should work together as one with a common agenda for accelerated growth in the area since unity was strength.”

He said the process to bring peace to the Dagbon area did not come cheap.

‘’There were lots of challenges due to the nature of the issue. People were not having confidence in each other as regards the problem at hand,’’ he said.
