The ruler of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II today June 22, 2017 paid a historic visit to Nana Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area at his palace.

Otumfuo who was on his way to Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region for the funeral rites of Paramount Chief of Nkoranza Traditional Area, Okatakyie Agyamang Kudom IV, said he had stopped to greet his brother and find out how he was faring.

In accordance with the custom, he presented a gift to the Techimanhene who reciprocated the gesture on behalf of the chiefs and people of the area.

This is the first time the King of Asante and the Techimanhene have come face-to-face after a long standing feud between them which was renewed in 2010 with threats by the former to have the latter kidnapped and dealt with ruthlessly; just as he was alleged to have done to the Tuobodomhene calling on the then government to bring Nana Akumfi Ameyaw to order for his barbaric acts.

“I am closely watching with keen interest and I will kidnap the so-called Techimanhene and bring him to the Manhyia Palace whenever he storms Kumasi if the government fails to take action against him for kidnapping Tuobodomhene, Nana Asare Baffuor, anytime soon.

“After kidnapping the Techimanhene, then the government, who has surprisingly kept mute about the atrocities committed by Nana Akumfi Ameyaw against the Tuobodomhene, can decide to come and face me here,” Otumfuo warned with a grim face.

He said it is then that the country will see the might of Asanteman, of which he is the spiritual leader, adding “I am a wise king who was well-trained by Nananom, that is why I have always acted according to the laws, but that does not mean Asantes are weak”.

Nana Akumfi Ameyaw IV without provocation, allegedly hired ten stoutly built persons to kidnap Tuobodomhene, Nana Asare Baffuor, and hauled him to his palace, where they subjected him to severe beatings and later took off all his cloths.

There has been decades of feud between the Asante Hene and Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area since the time of Asantehene Opoku Ware I, and what the Techimanhene considers as the “treachery of Baafu? Pim”, an Asante man who had been given land to settle on by the Techimanhene….(the town of Nkora mi?nsa) now called Nkoransa, relations between Asante and Techiman has soured.

Baafuo Pim history revealed in the 1947s had betrayed Nana Techimanhene by stealing gold he had been given to take to the Asantehene, and then filling the pot with dust. This action infuriated Opoku Ware Katakyie who then dealt a massive defeat to the Bono Kingdom of Techiman. Nearly all his lands and property were taken by Asantehene.
