Otumfuo calls for unity among traditional leaders

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has enjoined traditional leaders to bury their differences and unite for the speedy development of their communities.

According to him, the socio-economic challenges confronting the country can best be resolved if people rally behind their leaders at all levels to proffer solutions.

The Asantehene was speaking at a meeting of the Asanteman Council in Kumasi to address issues confronting kingdom and chart a new path for development.

The event also coincided with the enstoolment of the new Barekesehene, Okofo Amoapim Brenya.

Known in private as Lawrence Amoah, the businessman succeeded Nana Kwame Akowuah II who reigned for 59 years.

The Barakese traditional area is one of the powerful states in the Asante kingdom.

The community is also host to the Barekese dam which supplies water to Kumasi and environs.

The chieftaincy seat has been vacant for the past four years due to a protracted dispute, which led to retarded development of the area.

The Asantehene charged the new chief to help unite all factions to drive development in Barekese.

Some indigenes and residents of Barekese lined the road from Asuofia to Barekese to welcome their new chief.

A resident, Rev. Charles Amoah, was happy about the enstoolment of a new chief.

The chief, Okofo Amoapim Brenya, called for the support of the people for effective community development.
