Otumfuo Education Fund advised to be transparent

Kumasi, March 14, GNA - Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has charged the management of the Otumfuo Education Fund to be transparent in their activities.

"It was high time you updated the public on the purpose for which the fund was set up, criteria used in granting scholarship to beneficiaries and the number of people who had benefited from the fund since its inception some years back", he observed.

He noted that such efforts had become necessary to enable the public, especially contributors have confidence in the management and also be abreast with how their monies were being used to help achieve the mission of the Fund.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu made the call when the management of Shell Ghana Limited donated a cheque for 10,000 dollars to the Fund at a ceremony at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The donation was in line with the company's effort to meet its social responsibilities whilst contributing to the educational development of the poor and needy.

The Asantehene urged management of the Fund to avoid discrimination in the granting of scholarships and strive to be proactive in their activities to help address the educational needs of needy but brilliant children in the country.

Mr. Lawrence Anuseh, a Management Member of Shell Ghana Limited, presenting the cheque, thanked the Asantehene for initiating the Fund in view of the crucial role education played in the nation's development process.
