Otto Addo may fit junior teams better than Black Stars - Sonnie Badu

Following Ghana’s disappointing friendly matches against Austria and Germany, which led to the sacking of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, gospel singer Sonnie Badu has stated that the former coach may be better suited for the junior national teams.

Reacting after Ghana’s 1:2 defeat to Germany on March 30, 2026, Sonnie Badu said Otto Addo showed some potential, but he later felt the senior national team job was too big for him.

With Otto Addo now dismissed, the singer took to his Instagram page to question who could take over the Black Stars within a short period and adequately prepare the team for the 2026 Mundial.

The “Baba” hitmaker proposed Kwesi Appiah, a former Black Stars coach who currently handles the Sudan national team, as a suitable replacement.

According to him, Kwesi Appiah’s familiarity with the players gives him an advantage over any foreign coach who would need time to adjust and understand the team.

“After last night’s match, I gained some hope in Otto, but I think the senior national team was too big a responsibility for him. Maybe he’d be a better fit for one of the junior national teams. Now, the question is, who can take over in such a short time?

“I think Kwesi Appiah would be the perfect choice. He knows all the players, has tons of experience, and can lead the team effectively. A foreign coach would need time, which we don’t have right now. We can’t risk having them lose and then say they didn’t have enough time with the players. Let’s get Kwesi Appiah, even if it’s just for the World Cup,” he wrote.

The Ghana Football Association officially announced Otto Addo’s dismissal as head coach of the Black Stars on March 31, 2026.

The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach exits the role following Ghana’s defeats in both of their 2026 pre–World Cup friendly games against Austria and Germany in March 2026.
