...DEATH & TOTAL NEGLECT AT TEMA SHIP YARD…APPEAL FOR GOV’T INTERVENTION

The pathetic and untimely death of Robert Ebbi on May 16th last year brought to the fore, the extent of decay and negligence of duty by those at the helm of affairs at the Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock.

In an interview with THE INDEPENDENT, the PSC Branch Secretary of the Maritime and Dock Workers, Samuel Owusu-Appaih, said the tragic death of his colleague was due to the fast deteriorating working conditions at the Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock.

Mr. Owusu-Appiah’s story which was corroborated by his assistant, Clement Boateng, said equipment and tools being used by the shipyard and dock workers have deteriorated and have not been replaced.

The workers of Penang Shipyard and Drydocks Company Ltd (PSCT) are therefore, pleading with the Government of Ghana to take over management of the company in view of the mismanagement, which has bedeviled the company since its divestiture in 1997.
