Pro-NPP vigilante group Kandahar boys in Tamale, Northern Region on Monday morning disrupted a planned press conference at the Kaladan Park in Tamale, injuring one person.

The press conference, which was organized by the Coalition of Youth Groups in Tamale, was originally expected to raise issues against the purported appointment of Dr Daniel Akolibila as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The vigilante group invaded the venue of the press conference, holding clubs and other weapons and asked the organisers to leave the place.

Some of the organisers took to their heels when they saw the group approaching, but others stood their grounds. A young man who gave his name only as Rahaman sustained some injuries as a result of the attack.

“They called us that we have a demonstration this morning against the appointment. When they were coming everybody was running I also run and my phone fell. I went back to pick my phone and they started beating me with sticks. I had a sprain on my hand, my palm burst and blood was oozing,” Rahaman said.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Dr Akolibila went to the TTH, Monday morning in the company of some youth, numbering about 40, to take over from the current CEO, Dr Prosper Akambon. Dr Akambon however refused to vacate, explaining that he had not received any correspondence explicitly instructing him to hand over to Dr Akolibila.
