One dies at Damongo as NPP car bursts into flames on the road

A man has met his untimely death following a bizarre accident involving him and a vehicle belonging to the Damongo constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last weekend.

According to a MyNewsGH report, the vehicle, a Renault pick-up which was donated to the constituency by Deputy of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor caught fire on the road with the party's chairman, Aboagye Kwame on board.

Aboagye was returning from a meeting at the party's regional secretariat in Tamale but upon reaching between Ntereso and Damongo Junction, the vehicle caught fire and burst into flames.

“I stopped and immediately we all got down and as if planned, the car exploded like a bomb. Thank God we got down in time before the explosion the story would have been different,” he is quoted as saying.

While he and five other passengers in the car escaped unhurt, the deceased who was riding a bike run into the burnt car which was parked outside the shoulders of the road dying instantly.

According to the report, the police in the area suspect the rider to have been speeding before he mistakenly veered off his lane and run into the stationary pick-up.

The deceased's body was taken to the Damongo Hospital mortuary for preservation but has since been handed over to his family for burial after preliminary police investigations.
