What began as a Facebook banter has led to the loss of life of one Kabiru in a Mamprusi- Moshie clash on Wednesday, MyNewsGH.com can report.
Kabiru was confirmed dead in a violent clash between the two ethnic groups in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region.
According to information we gathered, on Wednesday 20th June, 2018 at about 12:30 am, series of gunshots were heard around Kariama, a suburb of Bawku amongst the youth of the Mamprusis and the Moshies which resulted in the death of Kabiru.
This was as a result of a Facebook comment made by one Moshie youth about an ambulance which was bought by a philanthropist for the Muslim community in the area.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Hawa Ninchema and Chairperson of the Security Committee in the area who confirmed the latest incident to MyNewsGH.com disclosed that it was as a result of confusion over extra ambulance charges which trickled to Facebook.
The driver of the said ambulance is alleged to have been collecting extra monies from persons who intend using the ambulance when his services are required aside from the known and officially accepted charges.
This, according to the young man who raised concerns about the development on his Facebook page, was not right incurring the wrath of kinsmen of the driver.
The Mamprusis therefore attacked the young man’s family house by burning it down heightening the tension in the already volatile area sparking sporadic shooting between the two groups.
Security has since been stepped up in the town to avert a recurrence while police say they are investigating the matter and those found complicit will be arrested while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bawku Hospital morgue.
