Omanhene receives death threats

Apam (C/R), April 25, GNA - The life of Obrifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea III, Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, is under threat of death from some unknown people.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the Omanhene said he had received five of such threats in messages to his cellular phones whilst his wife received three.

He said the last message which he received about three weeks ago read: "you don't have respect for the integrity of the Local Government Minister, count yourself as dead bag".

Obirifo Ahor Ankobea said the message gave him clues that those threatening him must have something to do with the impasse over the citing of the capital for the new Gomoa East District. He explained that he had objected to the siting of the capital at Gomoa Afransi to ensure that justice was done to all communities in the new district.

"I was insisting that the capital be sited at a place accessible to all communities but not at a place where people had to board a vehicle about four times before reaching the capital to transact business. The Omanhene said by insisting on the right thing did not mean that he did not respect the Local Government Minister. He said he had reported the death threats to the police at Apam and Agona Swedru.

The police confirmed the story and said they were investigating.
