The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared Okaikwei South a permanent stronghold after Ernest Adomako's decisive victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
NDC Chairman Johnson Aseidu Nketiah made the declaration during a "Thank-You Tour" rally in Okaikwei south in Greater Accra, citing the party's development record and Adomako's win as reasons why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will never win the seat again.
Ernest Adomako secured 32,691 votes (57.40%) in the December 7, 2024 elections, while NPP's Darkoa Newman got 24,263 votes (42.60%). This marks the NDC's first win in Okaikwei South in 28 years, breaking a long-standing NPP dominance.
Johnson Aseidu Nkatia highlighted projects delivered by the NDC government in the constituency, including improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, which he said contributed to the party's success.
The NDC chairman thanked supporters for their mobilisation, describing it as "unprecedented grassroots mobilisation". The NDC currently holds 185 of 275 parliamentary seats, with Okaikwei South contributing to their margin.
The NPP has vowed to fight back, with the next general election slated for 2028. For now, Okaikwei South stands as a showcase of the NDC's recent successes and a rhetorical battlefield where the NPP is vowing to reclaim the seat.
