Oguaa 'Akoto' Association assists Ghana Library Board

Members of the United Kingdom branch of the Oguaa 'Akoto' Association on Tuesday donated assorted books worth 95 million cedis to the Ghana library board (GLB) in Cape Coast.

The donation of the books, which are on subjects like social sciences, banking, law, accounting, economics and women issues, follows an appeal made to the association by the board, last year.

Mr Thomas Addoquaye, Chairman, who made the presentation, said the association was formed 15 years ago, and aims at helping in the development of Cape Coast particularly in education.

He said this was the first time the association had made such a donation and gave the assurance that it would continue to assist in the education and health sectors, adding that it has plans to donate equipment to some health institutions in the municipality.

Mr Addoquaye was not happy that the library has no computers to facilitate the documentation of materials, and said the association would provide the library with a computer.

Mr Ben Arko, Central Regional Librarian, thanked the donors for the kind gesture and appealed for books for the children's section.

He suggested that the association forms a committee to liaise with the board on the types of books needed for both the children's and adult sections.

He appealed to other organisations to emulate the gesture and come to the aid of the library.
