Offinso Assembly To Get Tough On Contractors

Offinso (Ash) The Works Sub-Committee of the Offinso District Assembly has decided to reject any shoddy job undertaken by contractors and to ensure that retention fees of such contractors are not released to them. In addition, the Sub-Committee would blacklist such contractors. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Committee with contractors executing projects of the district assembly at Offinso yesterday after it came to light that most of the 24 contractors were producing shoddy and sub-standard work. Mr S. O. Tawiah, chairman of the Works Sub-Committee, stressed the need for the assembly to properly examine the background of contractors before awarding them jobs. He said there are indications that the majority of the contractors lack technical know-how, qualified manpower and relevant equipment to undertake quality work. Mr Tawiah appealed to the district assembly to urgently consider assisting the works sub-committee with transport for monitoring duties.
