Ofei Agyemang Sues Konadu

-As Konadu Sues back

The battle for the survival of the beleaguered Nation al Democratic Party (NDP) has taken a new twist, with a founding member who resigned from the party to join the ruling National Democratic Congress, Dr Ofei Agyemang laying claims to the campaign song of the party

The Al-Hajj is in the know that Dr Ofei Agyeman is considering going to court to restrain Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and the NDP from further using the song in any of their radio and TV commercials and on their campaign platforms. Mrs. Rawlings, The Al-Hajj can also report is also fervently sharpening her legal axe to drag Dr Ofei Agyemang to court over allegations that the New patriotic Party is funding her NDP party.

The ‘amanyo kuo a esom bo’ song has been the single most important lyrical weapon that the disqualified President Aspirant of the NDP has been trumpeting across the length and breadth of the country to whip up support for her parliamentary candidate.

In an interview with The Al-Hajj, Dr. Ofei Agyemang emphatically stated that the ‘amanyo kuo a esom bo’ song which was derived from the Methodist Hymn Book Number 634 has lyrics that he single handedly composed, but was later adopted by the NDP as its campaign song without his consent

According to him unlike the Umbrella of the NDC, the NDP campaign song is his intellectual property; therefore it will be an affront of the copyright laws of Ghana and an abuse of his right for anybody to continuously use it without seeking his consent.

He explained that in a few weeks ago, he notified the Chairman of the NDP, Dr Josiah Aryeh to halt the use of the song for their party activities. He said on November 26, 2012 about 6:30pm he had a call from Kizz Fm in Takoradi to responded to some derogatory commentary that was made about him by Ernest Owusu Bempah, an operative of NDP about his return to the NDC “The same operative had four weeks earlier referred to my resignation from the NDP on other networks as being inconsequential to the fortunes of the NDP because he brought nothing to the table of the party. I did not respond to his offensive attacks because I knew he was been used” he noted According to Dr Ofei Agyeman, he single handedly composed the song that the NDP is using for their campaign activities and could not fathom why Owusu Bempah could make such a statement without first checking from his superiors his contribution to the NDP

He further called on Nana Konadu to task her spokespersons to speak to issues contain in their party manifesto, rather than mounting needless and reckless attacks on him, adding “those whose palm nuts where cracked for them by benevolent spirits must learn to be humble.”

“If they fail to respect the copyright laws of the country by puttying a stop to the use of the song, my last resort will be to seek redress from the court” he added

Just last week, Dr. Ofei Agyemang revealed to XYZ News that the NPP funded the formation of the NDP in order to weaken the political fortunes of the NDC ahead of the December 7 polls

Mrs. Rawlings, The Al-Hajj is credibly informed; through her lawyers yesterday served notice to Dr Ofei Agyemang of their intension to drag him to court anytime soon for those allegations. Efforts to get any official of NDP including Mrs. Rawlings to speak to the issue have all proven futile
