Oda Council of Churches organises massive clean-up

Oda (E/R), Sept. 22, GNA - The Local Council of Churches at Oda in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region, at the weekend organised a massive clean-up exercise at the government hospital here to help tidy up the environment. The church members, weeded and swept the surroundings and cleared choked gutters at the hospital. The clean-up was organised to end the Council's week-long programme dubbed: "Christian Home Celebration", under the theme: "Ghana at 50 - the way forward".

The Programme included seminars and talks, mostly to intensify preaching and education on morals, in order to do away with indiscipline in the society.

Dr. Yaw Otchere, District Director of Health Services in-charge of the hospital, thanked the Council for the exercise and expressed the hope that the exercise would be extended to other parts of the town, to help eradicate mosquitoes. Bishop J.B. Mperim of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Oda Area, who is the Chairman of the Council congratulated the congregation and called on the Oda community to support the efforts of the Christian Churches, to improve sanitation in Oda.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the exercise, Rev. Daniel Opong Wereko, Akyem Oda District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, stated that the exercise would be organised periodically to eliminate the breeding places of mosquitoes in the area, to help reduce the incidence of malaria. Rev. Wereko said since: "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", there was the need for them to keep the environment clean, adding that, they should not only refocus, but also to rekindle the spirit of self-help among the people, to inspire them to undertake development projects in the district.
