Obuasi MCE visits examnation centers

A total of 4,715 candidates made up of 2,334 boys and 2,379 girls were registered for the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E). In all, there were twenty (20) registered centres in the Obuasi Municipality. English Language and Religious and Moral Education were the subjects taken on the first day of the exams.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Honourable Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi took time of his busy schedule to visit some of the examination centres in the Municipality on the first day. At the Christ the King Senior High School Examination centre, there were three (3) centres and a total of eight hundred and one (801) registered candidates with ten (10) absentees recorded on the first day.

At the St. Margaret Educational Complex Examination centres. Nine Hundred and twelve (912) candidates were expected to take part in the first day of the examination with three (3) registered centres. However, there were a total of twenty two (22) absentees, which was attributed to the redundancy exercise undertaken by AngloGold Ashanti in 2014 which has seen most of the workers leaving the Obuasi Township with their children.
Meanwhile, a female student (name withheld) reportedly collapsed during the first paper. She has since been responding to treatment at the hospital.
At the Obuasi Senior High School Examination centre, there were a total of 1,155 registered pupils for the examination at five (5) centres. Seven (7) candidates could not turn up on the day of the exams with various reasons.
However, there was a delay in the start of the second paper in most centres in Obuasi, a situation which was blamed on a setback encountered during the transportation of the papers.

This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) on Friday, 17th June, 2016 with wild celebrations from the students at most centers visited. The Exams officers confirmed that,there was no exams malpractices recorded in all the centers and praised the students and teachers of the various schools for comporting themselves during the period.
