OSP reacts to claim that GACL MD is under SML contract probe

Sammy Darko Appiah, Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP, has spoken to the claim that the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, is a person of interest in the ongoing investigations into the controversial revenue assurance contract involving Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).

Appiah Darko during an interview on TV3’s New Day on Friday, August 1, 2025 did not deny or confirm the claim.

“I do not even understand why the Managing Director’s name is being bandied around by a particular group of people. The fact that he [Adom-Otchere] mentioned somebody’s name does not mean that the person may be a subject of investigation. That’s him trying to defend himself,” he said.

“If it means that the MD of the company has to answer, the MD of the company will answer. But it is not up to the suspect to be determining, ‘why have you called this person, why haven’t you called that?’” he added.

At present, the OSP has identified only three individuals as suspects: former GACL Board Chair Paul Adom-Otchere, Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah (Group Executive, Commercial Services), and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea (CEO of Devnest Systems).

“When the office is thoroughly done and there are any other persons that the Office would want to place before the court, the office is going to do that,” Appiah Darko further added.

Adom-Otchere reported to the OSP on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and was granted bail after interrogation, but remains in custody after failing to meet the bail condition of providing two landed properties in his name.
