Nyanyano: Classroom block contractor’ll be paid soon – MP

The contractor who built the Nyanyano Kakraba D/A Primary School will be paid soon The contractor who built the Nyanyano Kakraba D/A Primary School will be paid soon

The contractor who locked up the newly built six-unit classroom block for the Nyanyano Kakraba D/A Primary School in the Gomoa East district of the Central Region will be paid his arrears soon, Member of Parliament for the area, Kojo Asemanyi, has said.

According to him, although the locking up of the building by the contractor was wrong, all efforts will be made to ensure that he is paid the amount owed him.

His comment follows the action of Nana Obeng Wiabo, Chief of Nyanyano Kakraba, to forcefully open the six-unit classroom block locked by the contractor who undertook the project over non-payment of his arrears by the government.

The livid chief said he could not understand why the contractor would subject the pupils to inhumane treatment as over 80 of them had been packed into a single classroom with the new ultra-modern and spacious block sitting idle.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM, Mr Asemanyi said: “I was in Parliament yesterday when I had a call about what the chief had done. I have no idea who the contractor is, but I do know that it was a GETFund project.

“Because I don’t know the contractor and also the details about it, I can’t make a definite comment now. I called the coordinating director to brief me about the project and so when he does that I will know what to do, but definitely we will have to work seriously to get the person paid.

“That does not also mean that we should put the education of our children at risk or put any impediment on the way of our children with regards to their education. I think what the contractor did was not appropriate. We don’t want to encourage that. However, I will work to see that he is paid.”
