Nyaho-Tamakloe: Alan has once again shot himself in the foot

Lead up to NPP August 7 Congress

Nyaho-Tamakloe: Alan has once again shot himself in the foot

Ghana’s former ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has said one of the five competing candidates for the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming August 7 congress Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, has again shot himself in the foot for the second time in his decision to contest the position after he failed in 2007.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said having lost the same position in 2007 to Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the subsequent brouhaha over his resignation and the supposed turn-around which in itself created a lot of disaffection for him in the party, it would have been wise for him to bid his time and nature his ambition on the quiet and hopefully come back strong sometime.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said: “Alan’s decision to contest the position for the second time round is ill-timed and inimical to his future presidential ambitions. “Whoever advised Alan to stand for the position of a flagbearer in the NPP’s upcoming elections, has done him a great disservice. As things stand now in Ghana’s political environment, Alan himself knows, he is totally out of the picture. His career as a politician will be in jeopardy should he not win the August 7th elections”.

“Unfortunately for Alan, he is not being told the truth as to the actual picture on the ground. You can’t compare Alan and Nana Addo in terms of experience, leadership style, governance, political maturity, appeal and popularity? Alan shot himself in the foot the very moment he resigned from the party after his defeat in the 2007 primaries and from the look of things should he not win this coming election, his leadership prospect with the party in the future looks bleak,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that, what the NPP needs now is someone who will bring back the party to power and added that there is no way the electorates will go past Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and choose any other candidate. He argued that it was through Nana Addo’s initiative that the NPP‘s present widened electoral college was made possible.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also added that Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has, proved too fit to be given a second chance after leading the party in the 2008 general elections. He gave examples of how Nana has served the party in various capacities right from its inception: the fact that he has won on three consecutive occasions, his constituency’s slot in Abuakwa for the party, the party’s spokesperson on foreign affairs in parliament when the NPP was in opposition and subsequently as an Attorney General and Foreign Affairs Minister, all these, very necessary ingredients any leader of a country needs.

“Nana is the only face most people in the party know now. He is the reason why Ghanaians still have hope that better days are ahead in this era of a misdirected vision led by the Mills administration. Ghanaians are wide awake now after all the lies that went into the NDC coming into power. Ghanaians are fed up with the Mills-led administration and believe their only point of restoration now, is Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.

“These are not things I am saying just for political scores. Now, hardly does a day passes without us hear of demonstrations and strike actions aside the messy nature of the economy which has ensured the good people of this country have been left poorer than before. Mills has failed and the only person who lies within the NPP, Ghana’s biggest opposition party, to rescue us all from this era of unfulfilled promises, is Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe concluded.
