Residents of Kumikrom, a village in the Upper West Akyem Constituency of the Eastern Region, have raised serious concerns over the lack of basic social amenities affecting their daily lives.

Located off the Adeiso–Asamankese road through Mmepom Junction, the community reportedly struggles with poor road networks, inadequate access to healthcare, the lack of schools, and unreliable communication systems.

According to residents who spoke to Accra 100.5 news, these challenges have widened the gap between rural and urban living conditions.

The Assembly Member for Kumikrom, John Ghartey, described the situation as dire, highlighting the absence of mobile network coverage as a major issue.

He explained that the lack of connectivity sometimes prevents him from receiving important information, including notices about Assembly meetings.

He also noted that some parts of the area, such as Amanfrom Essaso, lack access to basic education due to the absence of schools.

Residents further shared how poor network connectivity forces them to leave their homes, climb trees, or gather at specific spots just to make phone calls, often exposing private conversations.

Women in the community also expressed concern about the state of roads, revealing that pregnant women are sometimes forced to give birth on motorbikes due to the lack of accessible healthcare and transport.

Market women added that the high cost of transportation significantly reduces their earnings, while nurses and teachers reportedly refuse postings to the area because of the poor conditions.

Frustration among residents has also taken a political turn, with some expressing disappointment in their Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Drah.

They claim that despite their long-standing support, they have not benefited from development projects or resources, including agricultural inputs.

Some residents warned that unless significant improvements are made, they may reconsider their support in the 2028 elections, citing unmet expectations and years of neglect.
