Number 12: GHALCA boss steps down from Interim Committee

The chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Cudjoe Fianoo has stepped down from the interim committee set up by the government to “oversee the administration of Ghana Football” following recent developments in the beautiful game.

The government is in the process of dissolving the Ghana FA as allegations of corruption have been leveled against its president Kwesi Nyantakyi and other top officials following an undercover investigation into its operations.

The government then set up a five-member committee chaired by Dr. Kofi Amoah, – chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the CAN 2008 – to run the leather game.

However, Mr. Fianoo, who was appointed as secretary to the committee has announced his decision to step down due to conflict of interest.

“The highest office of the land gave me an appointment but I need to weigh the pros and cons of the appointment in relation to my position as GHALCA chairman. Just from a cursory look, I could see that there a level of conflict.

“If the government had come to GHALCA for us pick a member to join the committee or the GHALCA general assembly had asked me to represent them on that committee, I would not have any problem.

“For now, I have assured my members of good leadership hence my decision not to serve on the committee,” he said in a statement.

The government will be announcing his replacement in the coming days, an official stated.

Other members of the board include former Black Stars captain Abedi Pele, Rev. Osei Kofi and Sports Journalist Eva Okyere.

Meanwhile, an Accra High Court has placed a 10-day injunction on officials of the Ghana Football Association and football activities in the country.

The government through the Attorney General is in the process of dissolving the Ghana FA following the premiering of the #Number12 documentary.

Mr. Nyantakyi, a former President of the GFA is also being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service over a charge of defrauding by false pretense.
