Wa, Dec. 25, GNA - The Upper West Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to nullify the results of the Special Voting in the Wa Central Constituency because the election was characterized by fraudulent acts.
In a statement issued and signed by its Regional Secretary, Mr Kale Cezar in Wa on Wednesday, the Secretariat said its agents had detected some deals in the list of voters the EC presented and had refused to sign to accept the results of the elections.
The NDC complained that on December 2, the list of names presented as Special Voters in the Wa Central Constituency stood at 605 and it was expecting the same number of voters to undertake the exercise on December 23, 2008 but that was not the case.
It said it had uncovered that a list of 731 names was presented as Special Voters in the December 23 exercise.
The Secretariat said its investigations had revealed that 71 of the voters were members of the Tertiary Education Students Conference (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party.
It appealed to the EC to investigate the matter and the perpetrators punished for the fraud since TESCON members did not qualify for the Special Voting category.
The NDC appealed to its supporters to remain calm and wait for the outcome of the EC's findings.
It assured the EC and Ghanaians that the Upper West NDC would help to promote peace during and after the elections but would resist fraudulent acts.
"Our supporters are vigilant and would not allow any fraudulent acts in the Presidential Election Runoff," and pointed out that "any diabolical machination hatched to cheat in the runoff would be fiercely resisted", the statement said.
