Chairman of the Road and Transport Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayepaye, has appealed to drivers in the country to reduce the rate at which they speed on roads.

According to him, over speeding serves no purpose but only endangers the lives of the drivers and the passengers.

His comments follow the accident that occurred at Nsawam on Thursday, 25 January, 2018 killing at least eight people.

The accident happened when an articulated truck run into a VIP Bus travelling to Accra from Kumasi.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation, (NADMO) from Ayensuano district, Police and the Fire Service were on the scene to lend a hand to survivors and to help ease traffic.

Commenting on the accident in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM, Mr Ayepaye cautioned the drivers to desist from overspeeding on the highways.

“The rate at which some of our drivers speed frightens some of us. There is no need to over speed, it doesn’t serve any purpose. It only puts your life and that of your passengers at risk.”

“My condolences to the bereaved families and I wish speedy recovery to the injured.”
