Agona Nsaba, (C/R), Dec 12, GNA - The Agona East District Assembly is undertaking a number development projects to improve the living standards of the people in that newly created district. Mr John Oremus Arkoh, District Chief Executive, (DCE) said this when addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Agona Nsaba to mark their annual Akwanbo festival at Agona Nsaba. He mentioned some of the projects as the construction of bungalows for the DCE, District Coordinating Director (DCD) and some staff of the assembly, a foot bridge at Agona Mankrong over River Ayensu, and some transit quarters at Agona Nsaba.
The week-long celebration was on the theme, "Agona Nsaba: Our Town, Our Home and Our Heritage".
Mr Arkoh said the Assembly had awarded the contract for the construction of market complex at Agona Nsaba, the district capital, and at Mankrong-Junction as part of the efforts to increase Internal Generated Funds (IGF) to finance more development projects. He said in line with raising revenue for the assembly, a taskforce had been formed to collect tolls and taxes.
Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East, suggested a stakeholders' meeting, comprising the citizens of Agona living abroad and at home to discuss the development of the district. He urged the people to unite and stop the slandering and undermining of people holding high offices in the area to ensure peace and harmony. Mr Agyabeng called on the people to cooperate with him as their Member of Parliament to facilitate the development of the constituency. Nana Kofi Agyekum II, Acting President of Nsaba Traditional Area, appealed to the government to find solutions to staff and office accommodation problems facing the decentralized departments of the State. Nana Agyekum, who is also the Adontenhene of the Nsaba Traditional Area, called on the Government to upgrade the health centre to a district hospital status to ensure quality health service delivery.
He praised the government for the expeditious response to the reconstruction of the Nsaba Central Market and asked the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to provide adequate infrastructure to basic schools in the area to promote a sound education for the pupils. The Acting President appealed to the government to improve on the poor structures at the Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School to enhance effective teaching and learning.
