Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has become the centre of public discussions following a recent press conference in which she addressed the ongoing proceedings regarding her removal from office.
During the address, she made several allegations against the government, firmly stating that she has no intention of resigning. She also claimed to have received threats warning her to either step down voluntarily or face consequences.
Her remarks have sparked reactions from a number of public figures, including Samuel Koku Anyidoho, former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to them, as Chief Justice, she ought to demonstrate greater responsibility in handling such matters.
Here are some public personalities who have reacted to the Chief Justice’s public address
Kwaku Ansa-Asare
Former Director of the Ghana School of Law, Kwaku Ansa-Asare, commented on the Chief Justice’s public address, stating that it was primarily aimed at garnering public sympathy.
He said this during an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah
National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has also responded to the Chief Justice’s recent public address.
Commenting on her claims of receiving threats pressuring her to resign, he asserted that such matters should be reported to the police, rather than being disclosed at press conferences.
He further suggested that the Chief Justice appeared to be seeking public sympathy.
Asiedu Nketiah made these remarks during an interview with Accra-based Joy News on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Hamza Suhuyini
Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team, has also criticised the beleaguered Chief Justice, raising concerns about her conduct and understanding of the 1992 Constitution following her public briefing on June 25, 2025.
Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on June 26, 2025, Suhuyini described the Chief Justice's remarks as an "act of desecration."

Thaddeus Sory

In a social media post on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Sory vehemently refuted her assertions, stating that many of them reveal a "worrying misunderstanding" of the law, especially for someone of her stature within the judiciary.
Samuel Koku Anyodoho
Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress and Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has also weighed in on the ongoing discourse surrounding the press conference held by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
