North America NDC salutes NDC leadership

PRESS STATEMENT

North America Coordinating Council of the NDC (NACC-NDC) salute the Leadership of the NDC for the public display of unity at today’s successful “March For Survival” Demonstration and the rejuvenation of the spirit of the indomitable National Democratic Congress, the party that will form the next government of Ghana come January 7, 2005.

The visual images of the Flag Bearer and Leader Professor Atta Mills, the Chairman Dr Obed Asamoah and the Founding Father, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, splashed across the globe by Internet, addressing the mammoth crowd assembled at the Accra Hearts of Oak Grounds, was uplifting and a further assurance to teeming members and non-members of the NDC alike, that a UNITED LEADERSHIP is finally at hand!

The false sense of strength exhibited by President Kufuor and his NPP Government in wi! nning recent bye-elections on account of incumbency and blatant electoral malfeasance has today been blown into smithereens by the massive participation of people from all walks of Ghanaian life and from across the political spectrum.

President Kufuor and his fumbling NPP administration, has by their nepotic, haphazard, arrogant and corrupt practices since January 2001 institutionalized poverty and turned Ghana into a nation where the seam that hold families together is tearing apart.

Numerous promises made by Kufuor before his elections including raising the living standard of workers, harnessing the economy of Ghana, providing 100,000 jobs in the first year, implementing policies for children to enjoy free education, have all become Broken, Unfulfilled, Unkept Promises.

President Kufuor and his NPP government have deceived the ordinary Ghanaian, saddling the nation with unjustifiable Water, Electricity, Sewerage price increments and in the case of Fuel, a truly unreasonab le price close to 5,000 Cedis which simply is “Official Kufuor-Kalabule”, per every gallon, above the 15,000 Cedis per Gallon as demonstrated by Prof Atta Mills, Leader of the NDC in his Statement on the Kufuor Budget of 2003.

Whilst unleashing economic hardship on the people, the Kufuor government has turned corrupt practices into an art form where NPP Ministers pay themselves for work they did not put on tender and did not perform themselves as in the case of Jake Obetsebi Lamptey in Renovation of Bungalows belonging to the State and the Castle at Osu. The NPP has shown its true colours as a congregation of insensitive, corrupt, tyrannical people.

It is with utmost disappointment to observe NPP, through State Security apparatuses, systematically harassing, intimidating interrogating, arresting and causing surveillance of ordinary Ghanaians they suspect are affiliated with the NDC. The cases of Miss Dzidzor T! ay and NDC MP Hon. Ama Benyiwa Doe are particularly bewildering, when these women were made to appear before BNI to be questioned for criticizing the Kufuor government.

The frustration of the people and the abject failure of Kufuor to offer effective leadership is without doubt clear for all to see, with the view that Kufuor is leading a one-term government which will lose power in the next general elections to NDC, the largest minority today which will be in the majority after the elections.

The NDC has shown that it is united and the Ghanaian public has seen it. Finally the people have demonstrated their choice. The Obvious choice is NDC.

Long Live the NDC!

Long Live Ghana!

May God Bless our Homeland Ghana!
