Noka FC lifts New Year Gala trophy

A highly impressive performance by Noka FC powered them to beat Darmang FC to lift the 7th edition of the New Year Football Gala trophy played at Ahwerease-Darmang Community Park, near Nsawam in the Eastern region.

Each of the communities around Darmang-Ahwerease vicinities near Nsawam was represented by a team, some of which play in the second division.

The eight-team two-day gala competition was organised and funded annually by Mr and Mrs Nkansah and children, a philanthropic family, at Ahwerease-Darmang early January.

This year’s event played on January 6-7, saw Darmang FC, Ahwerease FC and Nkansah FC finish second, third and fourth respectively and were also presented with separate trophies.

In addition, each of the eight participating teams was presented with assorted soft drinks, medals, footballs, certificates and an undisclosed cash donation.

In a brief speech ahead of the competition, the Chief Economics Officer at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Edmund K. Nkansah, advised the youth to take their studies seriously and more importantly learn to be creative to be able to solve societal problems.

“By so doing, you will be able to create wealth to enhance your well-being,” he advised, warning them to refrain from all harmful drugs and bad attitudes in order not to derail their destiny.

The philanthropic family distributed over 200 fowls to old men and women above 70 years of age in the communities. In addition, various gift packages were given to their permanent workers and more than 100 youth in the area who serve as casual workers in their agricultural investment.

Part of the family’s farm products (citrus, coconuts, pawpaw etc.) was also distributed to the people in the communities.

According to the Nkansah family, the sponsorship of the gala competition and distribution of gifts are part of their religious obligations and corporate social responsibility towards the upliftment of the well-being of humanity.

At the closing ceremony of the competition, the chiefs and elders and team handlers of the participating communities took turns to thank and commend Mr. and Mrs. Nkansah and their children for the multiple packages of assistance extended to the communities which had become an annual ritual.
