No umbrella, butterfly influenced independent candidate will succeed in Ejisu – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called out the Alan Kyerematen-led Movement for Change (M4C) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) insisting he is aware the two are behind Kwabena Owusu Aduomi’s independent candidature in Tuesday’s Ejisu by-elections.

Making his last remarks as the NPP wrapped up its campaigns in Ejisu, the president asserted, “I know that the butterfly and the umbrella are behind the independent candidate. They are people who do not want the good of the New Patriotic Party. I send them this caution that they will never succeed.”

The president further refuted claims from the Aduomi camp pointing to a grand scheme to rig the elections in favor of the New Patriotic Party’s lawyer Kwabena Boateng.

“I have heard very surprising things. Is Aduomi claiming that when he contested on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, the party had to rig elections to help him win the Ejisu seat?” he questioned.

Further taking a dig at Ing. Owusu Aduomi’s camp, he questioned the motive behind defecting from the NPP to stage a comeback when Mr. Aduomi also defeated a cabinet minister to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in 2008.

“He contested the man who was later elevated to the position of minister of foreign affairs and regional integration when I resigned to contest as flagbearer for the NPP. At the time he won his primaries, the NPP was sweet. Now that he has also lost to someone else, he feels hurt,” President Akufo-Addo teased.

The president further described as fallacious the insistence by Ing Aduomi that he – Ing. Aduomi – reserves the right to take credit for the road constructed in Ejisu while he served as the Member of Parliament.

The president contended, “In the whole country, there is only one man who grants approval for every road infrastructural project. That man is myself.”

He therefore charged the people of Ejisu to elect Kwabena Boateng as Member of Parliament to facilitate the continuation of all ongoing developmental projects in Ejisu.

The president, his vice and now flagbearer of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia together with the entire national executive leadership of the New Patriotic Party, ministers, government functionaries, and NPP Members of Parliament were present in Ejisu for the final rally ahead of the April 30 vote occasioned by the passing of John Kumah, the MP who died while in office.
