No salary structure developed or approved for Single Spine

Accra, June 2, GNA - The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) on Wednesday said no salary structure had been developed or approved for the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP). "Consequently, the commission is alerting all Public Service workers that the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) can only be in place after the determination of the Base Pay and Relativity Ratio," it said. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of FWSC, said it had noted with concern, the distribution of materials purported to be the salary structures of various public service institutions for implementation under the SSPP.

"It must be noted that under the SSPP, a Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) is to be developed for the Public Service," it said. "The Base Pay is the minimum pay on the SSSS, whereas the Relativity Ratio is the percentage increase from one pay point to the other. However these two critical components of the new pay policy are yet to be determined," the statement said. According to the statement, the Commission together with its social partners are working feverishly around the clock to reach an agreement on the base pay and relativity ratio, mindful of the July 1, date for a smooth implementation of the policy. "All public service workers are therefore entreated to disregard any publications or computations that give the semblance of the existence of a salary structure under the SSPP," it added.
