No president will fill your pockets with money - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has said that it is not possible for him or any other president to go round and fill the pockets of citizens with money.

Mr Mahama, who was addressing party supporters in the Hohoe constituency as part of his Volta regional tour on Wednesday October 19, insisted that citizens should take advantage of the enabling environment which government will pursue if he is given the mandate to govern for another four-year term, to better their economic circumstances.

“No president is going to come to Ghana one day and line all our people up and say, ‘everybody come and get it; here is free money.’ It will never happen. The only way you can put money in your pocket is to work for it. Even the Bible says so. … God told us, ‘Go into the world and work with your hands, go and labour and feed yourself’ – that is what He said. And, so, the only way money can go into citizens’ pockets is when they work for it. And, so, government’s responsibility is to make sure that we give our citizens the skills to work and to make money for themselves,” he added.

The president had earlier said in February 2016 that citizens would get money in their pockets during his second term in office.

Speaking at the inauguration of one of the community day senior high schools at Kwaobaah Nyanoa in the Eastern Region, President Mahama admonished Ghanaians to bear with the present challenges in the country because they remained sacrifices necessary for Ghana’s brighter future towards getting monies in their pockets.
