No political party owns monopoly over any area - Atta Mills

New Edubiase (Ash), Oct. 17, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday kicked-start his eight-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region declaring that the intelligence of the Ghanaian cannot be underrated. He said, the rousing welcome given him showed that no political party could claim monopoly over "any strong hold".

Addressing a massive rally at New Edubiase, Prof. Atta Mills said the will of change that was blowing over the country showed that the hardship in the country had engulfed majority of the people, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or geographical location. He said another four-year term for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be yet another stretch of failed promises, divisionism, corruption and parochialism which would bring in their wake suffering and incompetence.

He said every group of worker would have its working conditions improved through tax relief and efficient management of the resources of the nation.

"I continue to say that, I was once a teacher and I know what it takes to develop the human resource of the teacher and I was also as a former Vice-President and being the chairman of the Police Council know the inner workings of the Police.

"As contained in the NDC manifesto, we will develop the efficiency and professionalism of the Police and I sincerely sympathise with those on peace keeping missions and will not turn my back on them."

Prof. Atta Mills said; "it is one thing having efficient tax system and another thing increasing tariffs without prudent management of revenue collected from the people and corporate bodies."

He said he would ensure that the unity of the nation was preserved and justice which is a basis of peace endured.

Prof. Atta Mills said, one way of destroying the people's morale was to preach one thing and practising the opposite and that his government will be truthful, transparent and accountable to the people. He said the NDC abhorred double standards and that his government will deal swiftly with any official in his government who will see his or her appointment as an avenue of making illegal wealth. Among those accompanying Prof. Atta Mills were his brother, Dr. Cadman Mills, Ms. Ama Benyiwa Doe, National Women's Organizer, Yaw Boateng Gyan, Deputy National Organizer, Ato Ahwoi and other leading members of the NDC.
