No new CEO for GOIL; Ignore media reports - Presidency

Media reports suggested GOIL CEO, Patrick A.K Akorli had been replaced Media reports suggested GOIL CEO, Patrick A.K Akorli had been replaced

The office of the Presidency has dismissed claims of a supposed appointment of a new CEO for the Ghana Oil Company.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, he stated that contrary to reports suggesting the replacement of the current Goil CEO Mr. Patrick Akorli with Mr. Osei Prempeh, no such appointments have been made.

Reports in the media last week proposed a change in the leadership of the Ghana Oil Company. Former Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang, Osei Prempeh was said to have been appointed by President Akufo-Addo to head GOIL as the Chief Executive Officer.

Board Chairman of the company Mr. Patrick A.K Akorli issued a statement following this to dismiss the reports. He accused President Akufo-Addo in the statement for disregarding due process in removing and appointing a new CEO.

Mr. Arhin however described the action of Prof. Asumaning as ‘unfortunate’ and ‘completely needless’. He said that he would have expected that he conducted enough research to confirm if or not the reports were evidential or mere speculations rather than going ahead to publish a statement.

“one would have hoped in the interest of best practices, that the issuance of such a statement by Prof. William Asumaning would have been hinged on concrete evidence, in the form of appointment letters and not mere speculation and conjecture by an online publication. The statement by the Board Chair was unfortunate and completely needless, to say the least”

He further stated that no appointments have been made to that effect adding that that due processes would be acknowledged as and when the President decides to make any new appointments for the Ghana Oil Company.
