No ‘dumsor’ on election day - Methodist Bishop

Methodist Bishop for Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region, Rt. Rev Samuel Fred Ansu has called on leadership of state to put in measures to prevent a possible power outage on election day since it will be unforgivable for the nation to be plunged into darkness on such an important day.

According to him, the state must resource the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that they organize the election without any constraints. He noted that, the EC should be adequately prepared before Election Day to make sure the elections go through successfully.

"There should be no dumsor on the election day. All other logistics must be given to the EC including money…’verification machines must be checked to see whether they in good condition before the election."

Speaking at the 13th Annual Diocesan Synod by the Methodist church in Kintampo, the man of God man admonished the EC to be fair, transparent and ensure that it does not work in the interest or any take sides with any political party. He admonished the EC, to

"… be a neutral referee and must work within the confines of the law without favouritism for a political party or parties during the polls. Electoral Officers, returning officers polling agents, must be faithful and alert during the period."

Rt. Rev. Samuel Ansu said electoral officers, returning officers, polling agents must be faithful and alert during the elections. He charged politicians to refrain from actions and statements that may create tension ahead of the elections since citizens may have nowhere to go should anything negative happen.

"Communications directors of political parties must speak in a way and manner that will bring peace. They should not insult the intelligence of Ghanaians when they are defending their party to bring provocation."

Rt. Rev. Samuel Fred Ansu called on Ghanaians to comport themselves in a peaceful manner since is a responsibility of law.

He also urged politicians to be faithful, transparent, and honest and deist from vote buying and lavish spending just to win the elections.

"Influencing voters with money cars and other logistics by some politicians if it is true must seize. Capturing of ballot boxes by macho men for political parties should be a thing of the past. It should be a violent free elections."

He cautions the media to do their work in a professional manner not to create unnecessary tension and falsehood while the security agencies should discharge their duties with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
