The police have beefed up security at Najong No. 1, a community in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District after four people were killed there on Sunday. Some unidentified gunmen numbering about eight on four motorbikes attacked traders at a market and fired indiscriminately into them.

This led to the death of four people, injuring eight others including two women on December 10, 2017.

Addressing the media at the regional police headquarters in Tamale, the Northern Regional Police commander, DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said a joint police and military force have been deployed to the area with the CID homicide unit from the national headquarters in Accra to help in investigation.

No arrest has been made yet, he said. DCOP Sarpong appealed to individuals who have any information to assist the police to arrest the perpetrators.

In a related development, DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong revealed that the case involving six suspects who were arrested with six pump action guns, has been transferred to the police headquarters in Accra for further investigations.

The six are the driver Haruna Issah 30; Jabok Nwoyo, 37, a farmer; Daasu Suuk, 30, wife of Nwoyo also a farmer; Teku Kwabena, 30, a farmer; 42-year-old farmer Frank Fuseini; and Thahiru Ayariga, 55, also a farmer.

According to the regional commander, his outfit is aware there are some unregistered arms in the Northern region and everything is being done to retrieve them in order to make the region safer for law abiding citizens.
