The Odumase Bridge connecting Nkwanta and Dambai in the Volta region has developed serious defects making it a death trap.
A section of the bridge has caved in following a rainstorm with a deep crack ripping through the motorable section, making the Bridge unsafe.
Wardens engaged to ensure the safe use of the Bridge told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that some truck drivers were still using the facility with heavy loads despite cautions.
The situation is affecting economic activities in the predominantly farming communities with trucks conveying foodstuff unable to use the Bridge to market centres and farm-gates.
Communities like Odumase, Ofosu, Kronteng and Kyebi risk being cut off from Nkwanta should the Bridge finally collapse.
Mr Maxwell Blagodzi, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, who inspected road construction works in the area, said stakeholders were being engaged for a temporary bridge, as measures were being put in place for the construction of a new bridge.
