The Nkwanta North District in the Oti Region has confirmed its first case of mpox.
According to the District Health Director for Nkwanta North, Eric Kojo Agboka, the confirmed case involves an individual who traveled from the Accra Konkomba market and exhibited symptoms consistent with the virus, prompting immediate medical attention.
After a thorough assessment and testing, health officials verified the diagnosis of mpox.
He emphasised the importance of public awareness regarding the transmission and symptoms of mpox, encouraging individuals to seek medical attention if they experience any unusual symptoms.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, Isaiah Dordoe, also highlighted the need for community awareness and cooperation in managing the outbreak.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual symptoms to health authorities promptly.
"We are working closely with the health department to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to prevent further spread of the virus," he stated.
