Nkoranza South NPP picks leaders

Nkoranza, (B/A) Dec 7, GNA - The Nkoranza South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party has elected a nine-member executive to steer the affairs of the party towards the 2012 general election.

The 638 delegates at the conference drawn from 119 polling stations elected Mr. Thomas Adu-Appiah as the chairman, Mr. Kofi Osei, Vice chairman and Mr. Kofi Twum, second vice chairman.

The position of secretary went to Nana Francis Effah Guakro while Mr. Abdul Nash Issah was declared un-opposed as assistant secretary and Mr. Augustine Amoateng as organiser.

Mr. Lawrence Anankuliya was elected treasurer while Mr. Daniel Owiredu and Diana Kisiwaa, won the positions of youth organiser and women's organiser respectively.

Addressing the delegates and party supporters prior to the election, conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Member of Parliament, commended them for their hard work and relentless efforts towards the growth of the party in the constituency. "I have been overwhelmed by the concern and commitment of members of the party who have never been daunted by the loss in the 2008 general election," he stated and added, "The 2012 election is a great battle and a Herculean task for the NPP."

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi urged supporters of the party to eschew petty squabbles to forge ahead in unity and intensify their campaign to enable the NPP to regain power from the NDC.

Mr. Anthony Kofi Kusi, Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary, advised the executives to work together and co-ordinate ideas that would enable the party to regain power.

He called on the youth in the party not to be influenced by money and gifts to join other parties, especially the NDC. Mr. Joseph Owusu-Kontor, chairman of the constituency's council of elders who presided, urged the executives to ensure unity of purpose and help address the diverse problems that made the party to lose in 2008. Mr. Adu-Appiah thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that they would work assiduously towards a resounding victory in the 2012 elections. 07 Dec. 09
