Nkawie traditional council gives two months ultimatum to MOFA

Nkawie-Kuma, (Ash), June 15, GNA - The Nkawie-Kuma traditional Council in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district, has given the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) two months ultimatum to develop the 120-acre land released to it several years ago for agricultural show centre or risk loosing it.

Nana Twum Barima Apau III, Nkawie-Kumahene, who gave the ultimatum, said the decision had become necessary following the inability of the Ministry to develop the land for the purpose it was acquired and the persistent demand by the landowners to reclaim their lands.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at his palace at Nkawie-Kuma on Wednesday, Nana Apau, said the land, which was released by the traditional council free of charge to the Ministry had been fallow for too long and the owners were agitating for compensation.

He said the land was released with the belief that, the project would create employment opportunities for the youth in the area but, "it seems my aim of releasing the land is defeated".
