Nine journalists in the Volta Region have been shortlisted for the maiden Volta Journalists Awards under the auspices of the Volta Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Volta/Eastern.

A press release signed by Mr Alberto Mario Noretti, Regional Secretary of the Association and copied to Ghana News Agency, said the nine were selected from 125 entries for awards in Health, Education, Court and Crime, Business and Economics, Sports, Sanitation, Agriculture, Tourism and Disaster Prevention and Management at the event scheduled for December 9, at the Skyplus Hotel in Ho.

The event, which is on the theme, “Promoting the Industrialization of the Volta Region: The Role of the Media” is to whip up the interest of journalists in promoting local industries and to celebrate hard working journalists in the Region and some retired practitioners.

The release said Mr. Kojo Yankah, Founder of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) would be the Guest Speaker at the awards dinner expected to attract key personalities from the Academia, Diplomatic Corps, Seasoned Journalists, PR Practitioners, Corporate Organizations, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Members of Parliament, Religious and Traditional Authorities, and Regional Heads of Security Agencies among others.

Mr. Mustapha Hamid, Minister for Information is also expected to launch a media fund for journalists in the Region at the ceremony to be chaired by Osie Adza Tekpor VII, Paramount Chief of Avatime Traditional area.

Meanwhile, the Association of Ghana Industries and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with some other institutions and individuals have donated cash and other items in support of the event.

Other sponsors include Krachi West District Assembly, Afe Lotto Limited, West FM, Fredmef Group Limited, SkyPlus Hotel, KCS Ho, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, Hotel Stevens, Woezor Hotel and Zoomlion.

The rest are GCB Bank, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Ghana Revenue Authority-STO/MTO, Volla Volla Herbs, Kekeli Radio, Kuul FM and Jubilee Radio.
