Former Youth and Sports minister, Hon Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has offered support for troubled Kumasi Asante Kotoko, and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the club’s deceased equipment officer.

In a statement signed by the Odododiodio MP, he said he has been devastated by the manner of the accident, especially as he had made “serious attempts as a minister to secure more reliable and safety means of transport for football clubs in the country.

The Ghanaian giants were befallen by calamity after the team bus of the Porcupine Warriors had an accident in Nkawkaw en route to Kumasi following a league game in Accra.

The bus, which was carrying 35 players and team officials, crashed into a stationary truck while the team was heading to Kumasi after a league game against Inter Allies.

Some unconfirmed social media reports suggested Kotoko’s equipment officer, Thomas Obeng Asare, lost his life in the accident.

My sincerest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and also God’s healing mercies and speedy recovery to all those who sustained injuries in this unfortunate accident. I am devastated by this news because of the serious attempts I initiated as a Minister to secure a more reliable and assured means of transportation for our clubs and teams. My prayers are with the owner of Asante Kotoko, the Management, Technical Staff, the players and the entire family of the Porcupine Warriors. God keep you and console you. Tributes for the deceased, and statements of support continue to flood in from several national quarters for the record Ghana League champions.
