Renowned Nigerian engineer Wasiu Abiola Owoola has been appointed as the Ikike Project 3 Partners/Authorities Relations Manager at TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited. His appointment comes as a recognition of his years of dedication, expertise, and excellence in the global Fortune 500 company.
With decades of experience in the oil and gas sector, Mr. Owoola's new role is expected to strengthen partnerships and drive operational success in Nigeria’s deepwater oil operations.
Mr Owoola’s journey with TotalEnergies began with his strong educational background, having obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and later a Master of Business Administration. His career trajectory at the company is marked by progressive leadership roles in finance, contracts, and strategic management.
His career commenced as an Assistant Accountant in Treasury between 1993 and 1995, after which he moved into management accounts until 1996, and later into cost and joint venture accounts through 1998. His keen eye for financial management and accountability saw him rise to the role of Internal Editor, a position he held until June 2003.
Between 2003 and 2005, Mr. Owoola served as the JV Coordinator and Head of Operations Liaison, where he streamlined key operational processes. He then took on the role of Contracts & Ventures Coordinator for the USAN Project from 2005 to 2010, overseeing strategic contracts that shaped the development of the major offshore oilfield.
His expertise in venture management was further recognized in his appointment as Technical Partnership Assets Venture Manager from 2010 to 2011. Subsequently, he was seconded to the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) as Government Relations/Communication Manager, strengthening ties between industry players and the Nigerian government.
From 2014 to 2017, Mr. Owoola served as Manager of Deepwater Interface & Reporting, where he provided strategic oversight for deepwater operations, facilitated cost optimization strategies, and ensured corporate alignment with operational objectives.
In his new position as Ikike Project 3 Partners/Authorities Relations Manager, Mr. Owoola is expected to provide strategic direction and oversight for the Ikike project.
His responsibilities include ensuring the project's alignment with TotalEnergies’ corporate objectives, developing and implementing project plans, and managing partnerships with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). His leadership is set to drive operational efficiency and foster collaborative relationships that will contribute to the success of the project and the broader energy sector.
Mr. Owoola’s appointment reflects TotalEnergies’ confidence in his abilities and the company’s commitment to leveraging experienced professionals to strengthen Africa’s oil and gas industry. His achievements serve as an inspiration to engineers and professionals across the continent, including Ghana, as the West African region continues to push for excellence in energy development.
