A member of Parliament’s Information and Communications Committee and the MP for Mpraeso, Davies Ansah Opoku, has raised concerns over plans to amend an agreement with Next-Gen Infraco.
He warned that the proposed removal of a 5G exclusivity clause in the company’s license could negatively affect investor confidence in Ghana’s telecommunications sector.
The government is considering an amendment to the agreement that would remove the exclusivity granted to Next-Gen Infraco for the rollout of 5G infrastructure in the country.
Speaking to Citi News on March 4, 2026, Opoku questioned the timing and implications of the proposed change, noting that the company had already invested heavily in infrastructure based on the terms of the original agreement.
National Communications Authority moves to scrap NGIC's 5G exclusivity clause
“You handed over an exclusivity clause to a company, and that company invested heavily in the infrastructure. Midway through the contract, you announce to the whole country that you have removed the exclusivity to satisfy some group of people. It is a worrying trend,” he said.
He added that Parliament and the public need to fully understand the details of the proposed amendment before any decision is finalised.
“What we are praying for is that we get the final details, review them, and then communicate back to Ghanaians. But I think the government’s decision must instill investor confidence, especially in the telecommunications sector,” he stated.
