Newmont presents materials top basic tools

Kenyasi (B/A), June 26, GNA - Newmont Ghana Gold Limited on Thursday presented 2,000 school bags and a learning materials valued at GHC 10,000 for distribution to pupils in six schools within the operational area of the Ahafo project.

The beneficiary schools are Kenyasi Number 0ne Presbyterian, Kenyasi Number Two Roman Catholic and Kodiwohia D/A Primary schools. Others are Kwakyekrom D/A Primary, Gyedu D/A and Wamahinso Roman Catholic Primary schools.

Mr. Dan Michaelsen, General Manager, Environment and Social Responsibility who made the presentation, said the company owed it a responsibility to provide children with the opportunity and an environment that would allow them to develop and use their skills and talents to compete in an increasingly globalised world. He said developing people in pursuit of excellence was a core corporate value of the company and urged the pupils to see the package as a tool that would encourage them to study hard. "If you work hard and put the tools to good use, you will be the better for it, but if you let them idle and consider them as additional toys, you will only have yourselves to blame", Mr. Michaelsen said. Mr. Amanoh Kyeremeh, Asutifi District Director of Education who received the items on behalf of the schools, commended Newmont for its tremendous support in enhancing the growth of education in the district. Mr. Kyeremeh said the Ghana Education Service with support from Japanese International Agency intend to organize in-service training for teachers in basic schools in the next academic year. 26 June 08
