Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Head of Local Government Service has revealed that government has come out with a new Decentralization Policy Action Plan to review the relevant laws and legislative instruments as well as facilitate the transfer of staff from the Civil Service to the Local Government Service.

He said key actors in Local Government have a major role to play in consolidating young Local Government Service, citing that each official of the Assembly and citizen are tasked with making their contribution in the areas where they find themselves.

Dr. Arthur stated that MMDAs have a pivotal role to play in the effort of government to socially and economically transform the nation to enable President Nana Akufo Addo achieve his aim of transferring the country.

He said during his tenure of office as the Head of Local Government Service, he expecting dedicated officers whose single objective would be to consolidate democracy and bring development and prosperity to the communities.

Dr. Arthur charged engineers, budgeting officers, planners among others to work closely together with MMDCEs and Assembly members to explain development issues to the communities.

According to him, his vision as the Head of the service is to promote Information Communication and Technology (ICT) to improve revenue mobilization in the MMDAs since the whole world is now driven by ICT.

He underscored the need for MMDAs to take advantage of ICT to improve on revenue to reduce the over reliance on Central government releases to finance development projects.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Kwame Duncan on his part, said he is not going to tolerate lazy MMDCEs and asked them to make sure they use their position as MMDCEs to transform their various district.

He hoped the stakeholders of MMDAs will team up with the technocrats in their respective assemblies to justify the decision, as a county to decentralize by bringing accelerated development to the people they served.
