New Juaben Assembly bans use of pan latrines

Koforidua, Oct 27, GNA - New Juaben Municipal Assembly, has banned t= he use of pan latrines to improve upon sanitation in the area. Consequently, the use of underground surface holding tanks at public=

toilets sites has been stopped and the assembly was offering between GH10= 0 and GH150 cedis as grant to households using pan latrines to construct KV= IP or water closets. Mr Alex Asamoah, the Municipal Chief Executive, who announced these at the assembly's Second Ordinary Meeting at Koforidua, urged assembly membe= rs to inform people in the electoral areas about the new measures. He expressed worry that some land lords and land ladies did not prov= ide toilet facilities adding that the rental laws enjoined them to provide th= ose facilities because public toilets were not for domestic use. Mr Asamoah said the performance audit of the management of toilets i= n the municipality was ready and the interim management committee has paid a total of GH6, 298 cedis to the assembly this month. He said a private company, Street Shop, has presented a proposal to build and manage modern toilets in the municipality. Mr Asamoah said according to the proposal, proceeds from the managem= ent of toilets would be shared among the private developer and the assembly. developer to build the facilities.
