New Edubiase Residents Bemoan NDC Govt’s Neglect

Obuasi:- It was a complaints galore on Sunday when Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), took his listening campaign to New Edubiase in the Ashanti region.

In all the communities visited, residents poured out their frustration about government’s refusal to bring infrastructural development to their towns and villages amidst growing poverty, which they say has been aggravated by the NDC government of President Mills.

At Afiasoman, residents complained about increasing cost of fertilizer, bad roads connecting to Edubiase and the collapse of the School Feeding Programme. A teacher, Kofi, also complained about teachers in the community who have not been migrated on the Single Spine Salary Structure.

Residents in Tongkwase I and II also complained about the terrible nature of their roads, and the NDC government’s refusal to complete a school and a community Library that was started by the NPP administration under President Kufuor.

Nana Addo was also taken to the site of a bridge that was virtually washed away by heavy rains months ago. They told Nana Addo that it was the NPP that built the bridge for them but the NDC government has so far refused to even rebuild it when it broke down.

Residents thanked Nana Addo for coming to visit and listen to their plight, and assured him that they will not forget him during the elections because “the NPP has showed that they care about our wellbeing”.

At Adansi Swedru, residents said President Kufuor built three school buildings for them but so far President Mills has done nothing for them. They added that President Kufuor also started the electrification project to provide them with electricity but could not complete before the NPP lost power and since the NDC took office, they have abandoned this project.

The story was the same in Akutreso, Kukuando, Subreso, Brekete, Tweapease and Nsuta Subreso when Nana Addo toured those communities.

On his part, Nana Addo sympathised with the people for the hardship they are going through as a result of the NDC’s incompetence and ineptitude.

He said, “you have experienced both the NPP and NDC and you tell me yourselves that life was better under the NPP, so next year God willing, let us all do what is best for us by voting the NPP back to power.”

He assured them that he and his team are drafting programmes and policies that will help transform Ghana, improve the standard of living of the Ghanaian people and bring prosperity to all. But all these, he said, can only happen if the NPP comes back to power under his able leadership.

“We have showed that we know how to do it and we can do it and when we come back God willing in 2013, we will do it” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo has taken his listening campaign to the Ashanti region after successful tours of the Eastern and Central regions.
